High-throughput screening of pathogens in Ixodes ricinus ticks; Borrelia genomics
Hi, I’m Sophie and I’m 27 years old. I graduated in Molecular Biology and Genetics and I did a Erasmus traineeship in France in 2023, where I learnt a very powerful molecular biology tecnique called microfluidic PCR. Currently, I’m doing a PhD focused on ticks and tick-borne diseases. In particular, my main project is the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, the aetiological agent of Lyme Disease. I also have other projects related to pathogen screening and tick symbionts. One of the part of my job that i like the most is going out and sampling ticks, because I love being in contact with nature, but I’m also keen on doing stuff in the lab (bioinformatics is not my cup of tea). When I’m not working, I enjoy reading books and playing board games. I have got a meerkat as a pet, Celinè and I guess you could say that meerkat is my spirit animal.
